02.02.2010 – BIRMINGHAM, MICHIGAN (February 1, 2010)…Lorraine Schultz, founder and CEO of the Women’s Automotive Association International, has been chosen the 2010 recipient of Manheim’s prestigious Barbara Cox Anthony Woman of the Year Award. The award, presented at the Northwood University breakfast on Sunday, February 14 at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, Florida, during the NADA Convention, was created six years ago to honor women who are leaders in their profession and have contributed to the growth and progress of the automotive industry.

An industry pioneer, Schultz launched her career at the Detroit Model Bureau, which supplied talent for automotive events, at a time when few women were employed in the automotive industry. She later served as executive director of the Auto Leather Guild of America.

A fervent believer throughout her career in empowering professional women to advance their careers in the automotive industry, Schultz founded WAAI in 1995. The association centers its efforts on recognizing the achievements of women in the automotive industry, providing networking and relationship-building opportunities, and encouraging growth through mentoring, educational endeavors and scholarships.

A member of the Automotive Hall of Fame Board of Directors, Shultz recently joined the advisory panel of industry-expert women as ambassador-at-large for AskPatty, an online portal for women to obtain advice on vehicle purchases, maintenance and other automotive-related topics. Schultz was previously named Most Influential Woman by Crain’s Detroit Business and is a past president of the Juvenile Diabetes Association. Other honors include the American Lung Association’s Humanitarian Award, the Detroit Historical Museum’s Most Enterprising Woman Award and Northwood University’s Golden Plate Award.

“I am both humbled and honored to receive the Barbara Cox Anthony Automotive Woman of the Year award from Manheim,” said Schultz. “I’ve devoted my career to encouraging and mentoring women in the automotive industry, and I am truly grateful for the recognition.”
