Summer Safe Driving Tips from the NHTSA

Published Jun 16th 2021, 12:00am by Kaeli Gardner in Featured Articles

As the summer season approaches, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) wants to remind drivers to prepare their vehicles before hitting the roadways.

As summer travel season kicks off, we ask that you share these summer driving tips on your website, social media platforms, blogs and beyond:

  • Check for recalls and perform a safety check! – Use NHTSA’s VIN look-up tool to make sure your vehicle is free of safety recalls. Also, be sure to check your vehicle’s tire pressure, wiper blades, fluid levels, lights and air conditioning before you hit the road.
  • Mind speed – Obey all posted speed limits or drive slower, if necessary, based on weather or traffic conditions.
  • Stay alert – Plan enough time to stop safely and responsibly along the way to take a stretch, eat a pre-packed lunch, return any calls or text messages and change drivers if you’re feeling tired or drowsy.
  • Keep kids safe – When stopping for essentials, don't leave kids or pets in the car. Hot car deaths can happen quickly.
