2008 Energy Bill Update -- Reducing Oil Dependence

Posted by AskPatty - Automotive Advice for Women at Jan 13th, 2008 6:35pm

Here is an update to the 2008 Energy Bill blog that I wrote in early December. On December 19th, President Bush finally signed this bill into law, although it is a much weaker version than what Democrats had wanted. The initial goals were ambitious: energy efficient vehicles, less dependence on foreign oil, cleaner fuels, and punishment for price gouging by oil companies. In the end, the bill mainly address ...

New Law Takes Effect - Don't smoke in cars with kids

Posted by AskPatty - Automotive Advice for Women at Jan 11th, 2008 5:46pm

California is now the third state in the nation to ban smoking in the car with minors. The new law imposes a fine of up to $100 for smoking a pipe, cigar or cigarette in a motor vehicle with another person 17 or younger. The infraction is a secondary offense, meaning you can be fined for it only if you're stopped on suspicion of another, more serious offense. And the fine applies regardless of whether the car is ...

It Does Rain in California - Time to Check or Replace Worn Windshield Wipers

Posted by AskPatty - Automotive Advice for Women at Jan 8th, 2008 5:34pm

It Does Rain in California - Time to Check or Replace Worn Windshield Wipers So, it has been raining cats and dogs in California this week and was lucky I had snagged myself some RainX wipers recently. Of course, they were in my garage as I drove in a torrential downpour (it was almost like a hurricane. Almost.) and used my three-year-old, stock wipers. Oops. Lesson learned the hard way. When I got back home, the first ...

2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR Lands Starring Role in New Knight Rider

Posted by AskPatty - Automotive Advice for Women at Jan 4th, 2008 3:17pm

When the 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR launches this spring don't be surprised if there's some confusion over what the letters "KR" stand for. While the super car has been known to racing fans as "King of the Road" since 1968, this February it will star in a remake of the hit TV series Knight Rider, making mix-ups inevitable. "It's purely a coincidence and a nice one at that,"" ...

Posted by AskPatty - Automotive Advice for Women at Dec 26th, 2007 2:59pm

I am so happy and excited to report that the House Energy and Commerce Committee, on a voice vote, passed a bill that would require federal regulators to consider ways of diminishing blind zones in large SUVs and pickups, prevent vehicles from rolling away and making power windows safer. A Senate committee approved similar legislation in May following reports of children being backed over in their driveways. Safety ...
