Jody DeVere has officially been named Chairperson of United Spinal Motorsports
Committee. United Spinal Association’s Motorsports program encourages
people with disabilities, including individuals who use adaptive
automotive equipment to participate in competitive Motorsports.
Motorsports
programs allow people with disabilities to compete on an equal playing
field with those without disabilities and foster camaraderie among
drivers.
Specifically,
United Spinal Association and the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA)
will be offering novice autocross or Solo clinics targeted to people
with disabilities. Anyone with a street legal car that passes
inspection the day-of-race may participate. Specific regions
identified for the upcoming 2007 season include, Philadelphia; Chicago;
Boston; Southern Georgia; Central Florida; Las Vegas and Reno.
United
Spinal Association is also reaching out to cultivate partnerships
within the Motorsports industry in support of the program and to help
raise awareness about spinal cord injuries and disorders.
Partnerships
include racecar drivers who are non-disabled as well as disabled who
display the United Spinal Motorsports logo. Drivers are from a variety
of divisions, including the National Hot Rod Association; the Indy
Racing League; NASCAR and the SCCA. Other industry partners include
Motor Trend Radio and Ask Patty.
Motor vehicle accidents account
for 44% of all spinal cord injuries. With that in mind, United Spinal
Association has developed a Motorsafe program to increase public
awareness on motor vehicle and recreational vehicle safety.
United
Spinal Association is seeking partners and sponsors to help raise
awareness on ways to prevent spinal cord injury. For more information
