Most vehicles are not built with four-legged companions in mind. Watch a car salesman or woman’s eyes glaze when you ask them about pet ramps or what material’s best for Fido’s car bed.

And car enthusiasts? They’ll choke so hard you might have to take them to the ER.

Breanne Boyle of Ask Patty provides some tips and resources for pet owners. With two dogs of her own (her “children”), she discuss the products she has tried over the years to make her Acura comfortable for them. A rear seat hammock style cover, for example, will confine pets to the passenger seats. Pet ramps are excellent for older pets that can’t leap out the back of the SUV anymore. She lists her favorite stores and sites to purchase products, all of which, of course, are washable.
