Dog Days: Stay at a Posh Bed and Breakfast With Your Pet!

Published Oct 25th 2007, 5:59am by Jody DeVere in Featured Articles

Rigby_roxy Whooee! It’s been a while since I checked in with you all out there. I know you all missed my anecdotes about the two rascals in my life, Rigby and Roxy. When Jason and I travel, we prefer to bring the pups along, however there aren’t many places that allow dogs, let alone cater to them. Bed & Breakfasts are the ultimate in home-away-from-home comfort when traveling. But can you bring your pets with you?

At BnBFinder, you can look for Bed & Breakfasts that allow your furry friends and even provide “creature comforts.” According to one source, “25% of inns listed on offer some sort of pet-friendly accommodation.”

"Unlike chain hotels, B&Bs can be flexible with their policies and can often accommodate a guest's and a pet's needs," says Mary White, founder of the travel industry's leading online bed and breakfast directory. Some of the locales offer pet accommodations and others will actually roll out the furry red carpet with welcome baskets, special beds, and treats.

Petsbottom It is best to plan ahead when putting together your pet-friendly travel itinerary. GO to the BnBFinder “Pets Welcome” section to search over 500 pet friendly locations.

Check the BnBFinder Pet Travel Tips
page for tips and tricks for pet travel.

Here are some of our favorite fuzz-friendly inns:

Carmel Country Inn – Carmel, CA
This small, upscale Bed and Breafast is located in a quiet residential area where privacy abounds, yet just 3 short blocks from the heart of Carmel by the Sea Village.

We feature Spacious Suites with 1 & 2 Bedrooms, as well as Romantic Studios. All accommodations are warmed by a lovely fireplace. The suites feature oversized soaking tubs or clawfoot bubble tubs. Each private dutch door entrance is framed by lush flowers. A bountiful breakfast buffet is served fireside in the kitchen each morning as well as on our patio.

White Cedar Inn – Freeport, ME
Located in the coastal village of Freeport, Maine, White Cedar Inn is a short, two-block stroll along brick-paved sidewalks to LL Bean and many brand-name outlet stores. If shopping is not your cup of tea, we are 10-20 minutes by car to beaches, museums, hiking trails, birding spots and many winter activities such as cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating and sledding. Spring, summer and fall are perfect seasons to bicycle to nearby beaches and along scenic trails.

Plan your day over a full breakfast in our sunroom. May we tempt your palate with Blackberry-Stuffed French Toast or Maine Blueberry Pancakes with Thick-Cut Peppered Bacon?

Later, after shopping or exploring, return in the afternoon for cookies, brownies or Fairy Cakes. Serve yourself coffee or tea from our beverage bar. WiFi available throughout the inn.
