Seat belt safety is so important and it's something everyone "knows" but not everyone practices. Besides it being completely unsafe,  it is also against the law to not wear your seat belt while riding in or driving a vehicle. Check out these tips from the Washington Post.

2. Some motorists say stepped-up enforcement of seat-belt laws is driver harassment
3. But police agencies say otherwise; belts credited w/ saving 100K lives from 1982-2002
4. Recent accident involving non-belted NJ governor, Jon Corzine, is illustrative
5. Rode unbelted in front seat of SUV going 91 mph; Corzine critically injured
6. Unbelted body continues moving at speed vehicle was traveling before crash

Significant Points
1.  Use of seat belts has risen from about 14% in late 1970s to 84.2% today
2.  Non-users still being killed, injured; driving up health care costs for all
3.  Corzine accident shows outcome for unbelted passenger in high-speed crash
4.  SUV critics often point to roll-over fatalities, blame roof strength standards
5.  But estimated 62% of SUV roll-over deaths due to failure to wear seat belts
