December 2007 (Medialink) - Last year, Americans drove nearly three trillion
miles, according to the Federal Highway Administration and it is
estimated 78 million more trucks and cars are expected to be on the
roads by 2040. Bottom line, traffic is at an all-time high and experts
say technology is the solution.
Coast to coast, cities large and small are turning to intelligent traffic solutions to keep cars moving. From Global Positioning System (GPS) devices, to intelligent traffic lights, and from metered highways to congestion pricing and tolling – city leaders are considering and implementing traffic technologies at record pace, to help reduce traffic and lower CO2 emissions.
