After 25 years of factory and field experience with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Elvin Nelson Forrest Sr., eager to possess his own independent tire dealership, founded Forrest Tire Company on May 1, 1944. Rubber was the first non-food item rationed during World War II. Because most of the tires produced at this time were being allocated to U.S. military vehicles, government authorization was needed in order to sell tires to civilian customers. Forrest applied and was granted the right to sell in either Carlsbad or Clovis, New Mexico. The location was literally decided by the flip of a coin, and the company set up shop in Carlsbad, today's corporate headquarters. On January 1, 1946, H.H. Thomas partnered with Forrest. They renamed the company and created Forrest Thomas Tire. Forrest's twin sons, Dick and Bob, graduated from Texas Western, known today as the University of Texas El Paso. Leaving behind promising NFL football careers, Dick and Bob chose to pursue the family business, and both joined the company in 1958.
After Thomas retired on January 1, 1962, Elvin Forrest changed the company’s name back to Forrest Tire Company. Five years later, Forrest passed away, leaving the business in the hands of his sons. Since that time, Forrest Tire has expanded to include nine locations throughout Texas and New Mexico.
It is in its third generation of ownership, and the fourth generation of management. Forrest Tire is known for its exceptional customer service and good, honest employees - the keys to its success for over 65 years. Today, Forrest Tire offers retail tire sales, commercial tire sales, brake and alignment services, and front end shops. Forrest Tire locations can be found in Odessa, Lubbock and El Paso Texas. In New Mexico, Forrest Tire units operate in the cities of Carlsbad, Hobbs, Lovington, Clovis, and Artesia, with a state-of-the-art Bandag Retread Facility in Carlsbad.
