My dashboard lights rpm gauges or not coming on when I put my 1995 Honda Accord in gear without my release key. Could this be a sensor or what?

I have a Mini Cooper 2009 and I'm having trouble with it. When I insert the key in the ignition nothing happens. No lights in the dashboard light up or anything. I tried changing the ignition switch and it didn't work. We tried jump starting it and nothing. I did some research and some say the immobilizer kicked in? I could really use any help I can get.
