Car will not turn over when trying to start. I have been told this could be due to grounds need cleaned for better connection. Not talking about battery. So could you tell me where all the grounds are located on a 2000 vw beetle? Please. Thank You.
Thank you for writing in. A bad ground connection could be the cause of your problems, but it is more likely that your starter has failed if it is unresponsive when you turn the key. There are many ground locations throughout the vehicle, including one located next to the battery. It would be the most likely culprit if you are having electrical issues related to the battery. For a full list of ground locations you will have to purchase or download a repair manual with detailed electrical information. I suggest you have the starter tested and/or replaced. Please keep in mind that most starter testers found at automotive parts stores do not "load test" the starter, and they can result in false positives. The starter normally turns over the flexplate or flywheel, which is a heavy load for the starter motor. When bench tested, there is no load on the starter and you are only testing its ability to spin freely rather than turn over the engine. Good luck!
