I'm looking at buying a used Toyota RAV4 or Honda CRV, 2.4L I4 engine. Probably 2016 or 2017, 2018. The last 2 brand new vehicles I bought were lemons. Ford Escape, major transmission issues and then Chevy Equinox, excessive oil consumption and now needs new engine. I just want a reliable SUV without major issues. Can you give me some advice?
Thank you for writing in. This is a hard choice, and it may come down to personal preference. Both the Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CRV have good customer reviews in terms of reliability and low maintenance costs. They each have decent drivetrains and similar specifications. The 2017 RAV4 is likely going to have higher reliability ratings, as the CRV is not Honda's most reliable. If having a vehicle that will go further between needing maintenance is the most important to you, the RAV4 may be your best bet. However, you should test drive a few options and decide which one is better suited to your lifestyle and driving style. Good luck!
