Makes a clicking/ticking noise consistently... Runs great but still clicking/ticking

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Jessica Howe, Automotive Expert & Coach at AskPatty.com

Hello,

Thank you for writing in. The fact the noise is consistent when the vehicle is on indicates it may be engine related. Beyond that, it is impossible to tell what the noise may be without being able to hear and see the noise first hand. Every moving part inside and attached to the engine is capable of making a ticking noise. The first step is to isolate where the noise might be coming from, and narrow down the possibilities before running any related tests. Check for obvious signs of anything wrong with the vehicle, make sure the engine oil is full and clean, and take a good look at the drive belt. Only further inspection will tell. Good luck!
