2007 pontiac g5 low 47,000 miles for 12year old car. always garaged. car is out of warranty for a recall (10 years) about fuel line. twice on hot weather days car reeks of gas. special bulletin 12191b seems to say repairs are covered (paid by gm). local gmc and chevy dealers seem to discourage me saying it is not covered and the cost is160 to 250 dollars just to look at it. they say it could be mice or the fuel pump or the gas tank. car is in excellent condition, no warning lights flashing. thank you very much for any help!

Hello,

Thank you for writing in. You can start by continuing to do more research to see if your vin was part of any recall. If the malfunctioning part was installed on your vehicle, then it will be tracked by the VIN number. GM will also have records of whether or not your vehicle has had that particular recall fixed yet. The catch is, if this is a fuel leak that is not covered under a recall, then you will likely have to agree to pay the inspection fee for the diagnostics. I always suggest that you get several quotes if possible, or at least get a diagnostic done fire, and then get prices from other shops around you. Good luck!
