JUST CHANGE THE THERMALOSTAT IN MY 2005 NISSIAN MURANO AND NOW HEAR A THUMBING SOUND

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Hello,

Thank you for writing in. You are going to want to inspect the cooling system. Two different issues come to mind. The first is that the system was not purged for air when the thermostat was replaced. The thumping you are hearing may be pressure building and then releasing inside the cooling system. Secondly, you may have a blown head gasket, which can be determined with testing. Only further inspection will tell. Purging the cooling system is not difficult, and you may want to run through that procedure first, before getting any diagnostics run on the system. Good luck!
