we are thinking about buying a 2017 Nissan sentra. Our mechanic said that there were problems with the transmission CVT w/Xtronic. Is these a current problem or was it with earlier models. Thank you, Alma

Thank you for writing in. Your mechanic is correct and potentially saving you from severe issues down the line. The major issues with Nissan's CVT transmission have affected a large percentage of their models ranging from 2012 to 2018. The 2017 Sentras were affected, but its nearly impossible to tell which individual vehicles are going to have problems. While this is a current and relative issue you have to pay attention to when buying the vehicle you are looking at, there is a fix for the problem and Nissan should repair the issue if it were to occur.

This particular vehicle may or may not be worth the effort you might have to put into it.
