Thank you for writing in with a great question. You do not HAVE to use synthetic oils in your Buick, but once you have switched over to synthetics you will want to continue using synthetics. You do not want to switch back and forth due to the significantly different chemical properties between conventional oil and full synthetics. There are many benefits to using synthetics, including higher a viscosity when the temperature is cold, better lubrication overall, and less engine wear over time. Considering your vehicle is nearing "high-mileage" range (usually over 100,000), you want to start using high-mileage oils soon if not now. You can always check your owner's manual to see what exactly Buick recommends as far as the oil type for your specific make, model, and engine type.
