Hey, I just bought a used car off craigslist and it works well and I got it for cheap but I’m just wondering one thing about it. It makes a slight sound and vibrates or shakes slightly when stopped... I guess maybe it jerks a little bit but it’s not noticeable the jerking anyway when you push on the brakes. But when it drives it has no problem just when it’s stopped. So what could this be?
Thank you for writing in. If the vehicle's engine is shaking or idling differently when you are at a stop, you may have an issue with the idle air control valve. This component kicks in the moment your foot leaves the gas pedal, and it is responsible for regulating the air going into your engine so that it doesn't stall while your not pressing the gas.
Shaking and vibrations while at a stop can also be a sign of failing engine and transmission mounts. These mounts are designed to stabilize your engine and transmission, and as they fail the engine's vibrations are not dampened transferring those vibrations to the rest of the car.
Only further inspection will tell, good luck!
