Do I need to warm up before driving?

Thank you for writing in, and great question. You do want to warm up the engine and the transmission before you start to drive after the vehicle has been sitting. The transmission in particular is important because it does not heat up as quickly as the engine. Once you turn on the car, you will notice the RPMs jump up and start to slowly drop back down to a normal idle speed. This is when you want to shift the vehicle into drive or reverse. It usually takes around 30 seconds, but colder temperatures may require more time.
