Answers from the Automotive Experts

Hello,

Thank you for writing in. The idea of a tune-up is to address anything on the vehicle that may need maintenance soon, and to make sure you are up to date on normal upkeep. Exactly what is done will depend on what your vehicle needs. You will want to consider and/or check the following:

  • Spark plugs
  • Fuel injectors
  • Air filters (engine and cabin)
  • Change engine oil and filter
  • Coolant level and condition
  • Check tire tread and pressure
  • Check brake pad lifespan
  • Check for any leaking fluids
  • Check transmission fluid level and condition
  • Inspect suspension
  • Scan for diagnostic codes (even without a warning light)
  • Adjust timing
  • Check condition of drive belts
  • Check AC, Heater, and Defrost function
