I have a 2012 Dodge Avenger and oil was low. I put 2 quarts of oil in, but the engine light came on. Car runs great, what does that mean?

Hello,

Thank you for writing in. There are numerous reasons why the check engine light may turn on. Warning lights can turn on when the oil pressure gets too low, if it is too high, or if there is a problem with the oil pressure sensor. The best way to determine what is causing the check engine light is to have the vehicle scanned for diagnostic codes. This can be done at most local automotive stores, or by a technician. You can take further action from there.

Secondly, you want to find out where that oil is leaking from. Your oil should not be that low if you are keeping up with regular oil changes. Your oil will continue to leak until the problem is resolved. You may want to seek help from a local AskPatty.com Certified Female Friendly service center. Good luck!
