There is key lock in my car on the drivers side in between the gas and trunk buttons,what is that for?

Hello, 

Thank you for writing in. This is a lock for the two switches it sits next to. It is called the IIRC lock. The purpose is to keep anyone else who may be driving the car from getting access to the fuel tank and the trunk. Most refer to it as a valet lock.
