The gauges on my dashboard keep going from a working state to a zero state and will keep repeating. When this happens the idiot lights come on as well. The car still drives normally. Please help.

Hello,

Chevy has been having some issues with their instrument clusters. You will want to start by looking up your VIN to see if you were part of a recall for this issue. If you are, then you can take your Malibu to any Chevy dealership and they can fix it for you for free.

If your car is not part of a recall, you will want to check the main electrical connection that powers the instrument panel, and you will want to check the dimmer switch that control's the panel's lighting. Make sure the electrical connections are clean, dry, and tight.

The stepper motors behind the gauges that allow them to move at the proper rates may also be malfunctioning, but one of these is less likely to effect the entire cluster. Worst case scenario, you will need to replace the instrument panel. Only further inspection will tell. Good luck!
