Hello. I have a 1998 Mercury Sable and it needs power steering fluid. The manual says it needs mercon atf but I can only find Mercon V - is this safe to put in my car even though I’ve used atf?

Hello, thank you for writing in. Yes, you can use Mercon V in your vehicle. It is compatible with the type of fluid that was originally designed to work with the vehicle's power steering system. Mercon V is a type of Mercon ATF. Both are types of hydraulic fluid with slightly different properties. If you are buying the fluid at an automotive parts store, they can verify that you are buying the right kind of fluid for your power steering system. Good luck.
