Why does my transmission not shift right unless I get wet

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Jessica Howe, Automotive Expert & Coach at

Thank you for writing in. The transmission is meant to work when wet, and typically water has little effect unless the vehicle is submerged. The only components that would be effected by water would be the electrical systems pertaining to the transmission. Electrical issues WOULD cause problems with shifting, but its unheard of that water would make the transmission work correctly (instead of causing the issues). If what you say is truly the case, you need to look into the transmission control module, and all of the transmission's solenoids. Make sure you check the transmission fluid level, and consider having the transmission serviced. If you would like more help with diagnostics, contact a local Certified Female Friendly service center. Good Luck!
