I have a 1988 Toyota Camry LE By that keeps on stalling on me when it is stopped, left in drive, and idling. It happens anytime I have to slow down or at a light.
I have changed the air filter, cleaned the throttle body, and fuel filter. Most of the time it files fine in park. But sometimes it revs up to 3 or 4 rpm and when I shut it off the engine shakes a little and will have trouble starting. But eventually does start.
This started occurring when I had my oil changed over a year ago by Wal-Mart. They put the wrong oil filter in my car and it leaked oil for about 2 or 3 miles to my home. Due to the fact that this car is a 1988, I can not hook up a OBD II.
Does anyone know of a way to get a diagnostic reading on this car or what may be the issue? I refuse to take my car back to Wal-Mart. I have seen them set a car on fire on a lift because they do not know what they are doing.
This honestly sounds like it may be a simple case of the classic culprit, Idle Air Control Valve. (IAC)
The expense is very minimal, and the replacement is fairly easy because they typically are located on he top side of the engine. I recommend you start there. Additionally, you have a part called an ignitor on those Hondas that have the characteristics you are descriping when faulty.
I hope this helps!!
