We were driving on the freeway with my boyfriend's Dodge 2004 Stratus coupe sxt. We noticed the brake light turn on, but the brake was down and the battery light turned on but car was still running. The temperature turned towards hot, which caused some little smoke to come out, which we only noticed once we pulled over. What could be the problem?

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Amanda J. Pierce, MBA Kathleen, you may want to check the main serpentine belt. This may be worn in two, or the bearing may have seized causing the smoke. This can stop the water pump from turning, causing the temp to raise, and the battery light would come on because the alternator may not be turning.
