The timing chain on my Sable broke while driving down the interstate and ruined the engine. I had recently had a check engine light on and had made an appointment for the next day to get it looked at when the chain broke. I am looking into replacing the engine instead of looking for a new car, any recommendations or thoughts? Also, is there a tensioner sensor on that chain as an early indicator (i.e. the reason for the check engine light)? Thanks
There is no warning light or sensor on timing belts or chains.
I am not sure whether you have gotten a quote on replacing the engine. However, the car is worth about $2000-2500. Around me, a new engine runs about $3500, so you would be putting more money in your car than it is worth. I would suggest using that money to purchase a newer car, but make sure if it is pre-owned that you get it inspected by a reputable shop first.

Shop around for a Toyota or a Honda! The repairs on your Sable well exceed the value!
