The keys do not work anymore in my 2008 Dodge Caravan, the cluster panel says "bad key"

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Gail Dunn, Owner at Women's Automotive Connection Luculle It sounds more like you have a bad wireless ignition module in your car. This is a common problem and would require a new module and keys that would then have to be programmed for the new unit. Cost would be about $280 plus labor from what I can find out.

Gelina Aquilina, Service Advisor / Mechanic at They key may be chipped & will need to be replaced and/or reprogramed at the dealership.

Helaine Kurot, Owner/Technician at 360 Automotive The battery on the key may be weak, or there may be an issue with the control module that reads the key. The battery for the key can be checked by a device readily available at most autoparts stores. If the key fob itself is ok, it may be necessary to take the vehicle to the dealer or a repair shop with factory equivalent software to check the rest of the system and program the keys once a repair is made.
