The Service Engine light came on in my 2009 Ford Edge and all of a sudden, the car started running rough and shut down. The car has 103k miles n it. Is this an indication it needs a tune up?

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Amanda J. Pierce, MBA Pat, You may need to look into replacing your spark plugs, wires, and basic maintenance. If you have not serviced your vehicle you may need to have a close inspection to ensure you get another 103K miles out of her.

Gail Dunn, Owner at Women's Automotive Connection Pat If the car stopped running, it could be several things. A fuel pump is one of them. It will run rough and then stop because the pump is out. You need to get it to a reputable mechanic who can determine if this, or something else is the problem. When you say it stopped running, I am not sure if you can drive it, or will have to have it towed. Water pumps tend to fail at this mileage as well. Don't take any chances. Get a diagnosis as soon as possible to avoid engine damage.

Gelina Aquilina, Service Advisor / Mechanic at Yes, it could need a tune up. It could also be something else. The check engine light could me tons of different things. Shop around for a mechanic that will check the codes for free.
