Hi Patty. Can men ask questions here? My wife's 2010 Subaru Legacy has a problem--a nasty squeak inside the car, apparently from behind the dashboard. Sounds like an issue with the blower for the air conditioning-heating system. How can I diagnose the problem? If it is the blower, can the unit be repaired, or does it have to be replaced?
Thanks for the help.

Andrew,
You may have an issue yes with the blower motor, it is a squirrel cage type apparatus. At time you may have leaves or (unfortunately) small rodents that fall in this cage. You can access the blower motor at times by removing the glove box assembly and view from behind.

We welcome questions from men. Diagnosing what is causing the noise required the assistance of a trained tech. First, let them determine if it is the blower, or something else. Squeaks are often just belt problems. Take it to a shop you trust and get it looked at. I have learned that sometimes these turn out to be a small problem making a big noise.
Yes, it could be the blower motor or the blend door motor. They're mostly replaced, not worth repairing.
