Mike,
In order to reset the oil life monitor on the 2008 XL7, first set the display on the dash displaying the oil life monitor and turn the key to the off position, then turn the key to run (don't start), press the accelerator 3 times within 5 seconds, then press and hold the reset (check mark key) until the display resets to 100%

The light is telling you the vehicle needs an oil change.
I do not know where you get your oil changed, but they should reset it then. If they do not have the capability, you will need to take it to the dealer to reset. Most vehicles show some sign when they need oil change and should be reset at that time, so that you when to service again. If you have not changed your oil within the last 5000 miles, that is why you are getting that message and should have that service done.
Press the vehicle information button on the driver information center (DIC) until OIL LIFE REMAINING displays.
Press and hold the Set/Reset button on the DIC for more than 5 seconds . The oil life will change to 100 percent.
