Recently, I pulled into a parking lot and I pulled my e-brake first, being occupied by something. I turned the car off directly after that and tried pulling the key out, stunned and feeling dumb I tried pulling the key out and of course nothing. Once I realized the car wasn't in park I grabbed the shifter and placed it in park and took the key out. Now I'm coming back to my car and I get in. I stick the key in the ignition and it won't turn. Do I need to replace my ignition tumbler on my 2001 Pontiac 2000? Or is the car possibly not realizing its in park since while the car was off I turned it to park without my foot on the break?
If it's still doing it see a locksmith. Also you can sometimes wiggle the steering wheel to get the key to turn. Also, make sure the shifter is where it's supposed to be by wiggling it.

The vehicle should recognize the car is in park. There may be another issue.

It may not be full engaged in park. Try pushing up on the shifter a little bit while turning the key. Also make sure the steering wheel isn't locked. Turning the steering wheel slightly may fix your issue as well.
