I need to find the fuse that controls the tail lights and pull it out so the lights go off and don't drain my battery on my 2003 Hyundai Sonata. My car is doing this weird thing when I am parked or driving the brake lights stay on and will not turn off and it drained my battery the other day. I don't have the money to have it looked at and I just need a temporary fix. What is easier than just disconnecting my battery which is what I am doing for now. Will pulling the main fuse be okay?

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Amanda J. Pierce, MBA Naomi, In the engine compartment fuse junctions box there is a 20A (amp) relay. In the passenger side panel there is fuse 29 & 25 10A fuse.

Barb Petrey, President - DBK Enterprises Inc at Jiffy Lube The main fuse also has a lot of driving data. Check the brake switch on the petal to see if that is stuck. Driving without brake lights is dangerous and not recommended. You can go on line to look up where the fuses are for your car or check the owners manual if you have one.

Gelina Aquilina, Service Advisor / Mechanic at That would be much better than disconnecting the battery all the time. Check your owners guide for fuse & relay locations.

Helaine Kurot, Owner/Technician at 360 Automotive The stop lights should be controlled by fuse 9 in the panel under the left side of the dash. You do not want to keep disconnecting the battery as this may cause issues with the many control modules on this vehicle. You will be much better off getting this issue diagnosed and repaired sooner than later.
