My tire pressure light came on while I was driving my 2007 Chrysler Sebring. At first, the red security light started blinking then the TPM light. Then it went off. I always have this problem when the weathers temperature gets around 10 degrees or lower.

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Amanda J. Pierce, MBA Sonya, Yes, as temperatures fall the air is less dense causing pressure in tires to contract, thus setting TPM sensors off across the country. Keeping a weekly eye on average pressures should get you through the cold temperatures.

Amy Mattinat, Owner and Author at Auto Craftsmen Ltd Greetings Sonya, Could be a number of things causing your problem, and it could also be two different issues happening at the same time. I recommend you take it to your technician and have it diagnosed.

Barb Petrey, President - DBK Enterprises Inc at Jiffy Lube Tires loose about 1 pound of air for every 10 degrees so check them regularly.

Helaine Kurot, Owner/Technician at 360 Automotive As the air temperature drops, so does the pressure in your tires. If you are checking the tires after driving for a little while, you will want to get a few pounds over what the sticker on the drivers side door frame states as the psi rating on the sticker is when the car is cold. The tire heats up as you are driving, increasing the tire's pressure. This is why the light goes out after a few miles.
