My tail pipe on my 2003 Chevrolet Astro has partially come detached from the muffler and is facing the ground now. Also, the muffler is hanging kind of low too. My question: Can you offer any DIY advice?

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Amanda J. Pierce, MBA Tamara, You may need to replace the hangers holding the assembly up, or visit a muffler shop for a welding repair.

Barb Petrey, President - DBK Enterprises Inc at Jiffy Lube It's not a DIY job. You need to take it to an exhaust shop because it is very dangerous if exhaust fumes enter the car.

Gelina Aquilina, Service Advisor / Mechanic at Can't offer any DIY's at this point but I can tell you that an exhaust repair is affordable. You might just need new hangers and a quick weld. Take your van to an exhaust shop for an estimate.

Helaine Kurot, Owner/Technician at 360 Automotive Check the bracket/rubber mount that holds the muffler up. It may need to be replaced. As far as the tailpipe, it may be able to be welded back in place or it may need to be replaced as an assembly with the muffler.
