I have looked at the safety pick and best snow cars and other sites with regard to this car or the Subaru family of cars - my question is ... are the NE Ohio owners of these cars pretty happy with their winter performance. I am thinking of getting a Subaru because it is one of the least expensive used AWD vehicles with somewhat decent fuel economy for the year AND I like that it is a top safety pick.

Amy Mattinat, Owner and Author at Auto Craftsmen Ltd Greetings Cheryl, We service and repair a lot of Subaru vehicles at my shop in Vermont. We call them the 'unofficial vehicle of Vermont'. They are really great vehicles in the snow, on dirt roads, get decent fuel economy and are very safe. They will also go over 200,000 miles if they were well maintained. BUT I highly recommend that if you decide to purchase a used Subaru you take it to a professional mechanic and have a used car inspection service. You want to make sure the previous owner maintained their vehicle and that there are no safety issues. You don't want any surprises once you purchase the car.
