After how many miles over 100,000 do I want to start using a different blend of oil on my 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer or do I even need to?

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Amy Mattinat, Owner and Author at Auto Craftsmen Ltd Greetings Mrs. Jones, You don't need to change the blend of oil for your Trailblazer. You should be using the manufacture recommended oil for the whole life of your engine.

Barb Petrey, President - DBK Enterprises Inc at Jiffy Lube You don't have to change the kind of oil you are using.

Gelina Aquilina, Service Advisor / Mechanic at Always use the oil recommended by the manufacturer. High mileage oil is just a thicker consistency and is personal preference. Some folks use an additive for piece of mind, but it's not mandatory.

Helaine Kurot, Owner/Technician at 360 Automotive Blackstone labs does a very nice oil analysis report. If you send them some of your oil from the last oil change(or the next one), they will analyze it and tell you if you need to change the blend of oil you are using. Their website is They even send you a free container to collect the oil. As long as you are using a quality oil, there shouldn't be any reason to change it. Unless there is a very specific reason you are looking to change oil, stick with what you have been using. Most of what you see on the bottle for high mileage vehicles is just some nice marketing.

Maryann Croce, Owner at Croce’s Transmission Specialists Hi Mr Jones, On your 2006 Trailblazer. If you vehicle is running fine and you have maintained it, I would suggest keeping the same oil. If you have low oil concerns and think your vehicle is burning oil, (bluish smoke from tail pipe) then I would get it checked and see what they suggest. Just because your vehicle is over 100,000 mile doesn't mean you have to switch oil blend. Good luck.
