Answers from the Automotive Experts

Amy Mattinat, Owner and Author at Auto Craftsmen Ltd The market determines the price. Good quality cars hold there value. I recommend researching the safety and reliability and longevity of the VWBC before you spend your money. And please do not forget to have it inspected by a qualified technician to make sure that particular vehicle is worth buying.

Gelina Aquilina, Service Advisor / Mechanic at Be careful when purchasing a used vehicle, especially from a private party. I always tell my customers to get a buyers inspection prior to making the final decision on any used car. Have a mechanic check out the car from top to bottom to make sure there aren't any issues. Also, try and get any service records you can, that way you'll know if the car's been properly maintained and if any major service is due before making your decision.

Helaine Kurot, Owner/Technician at 360 Automotive There are many reasons they could be cheap. Check the vehicle history and make sure that the vehicle isn't a flood vehicle. Have a technician check out the vehicle for you prior to buying it, as it may need work the original owner declined to have done. Make sure the vehicle comes with copies of the service history - such as the oil being changed on a regular basis and the correct oil being used. These vehicles are not cheap to repair when they have not been properly maintained.

Maryann Croce, Owner at Croce’s Transmission Specialists Hi Carole, One of the reasons a used vehicle seems like a deal to good to be true, is it may have issues that the current owner doesn't want to address. We have seen electrical issues with these types of vehicles. Also parts can be expensive when repairs are needed. Keeping this in mind, with any used vehicle that you are considering, check it out and make sure everything is working. Ask for maintenance and repair records and lastly check in your area for a shop that works on VW's. You may want to get it inspected for any existing issues. Good luck.
