Can an oil leak from a timing gasket damage the alternator on a 1997 Saturn S-Series?
Answers from the Automotive Experts
Probably not.
Hey Melissa, probably not. The alternator is typically located at the top of the engine and the timing cover is on the side of the motor.
It can if oil is leaking onto the alternator. It will also damage the belt if the belt gets contaminated.
The inside of the timing case should be dry. If there is oil leaking out of the timing cover, there is most likely a leaking seal behind that cover that should also be addressed.
