The Owner of a local german repair shop told me it would cost $450 to $500 to fix the back brakes on my Mercedes-Benz ML350 after looking at them without taking the wheel off. Is he overcharging me? I had all 4 brakes fixed on my CLK 320 for $500.00?
No one can truly tell you the cost of a brake job without taking off the wheels and taking the caliper off to view both of the brake pads.
If you were pushing for a price, and your vehicle only needed back brakes replaced (pads and rotors), then $450-$500 is a fair price.
All 4 brakes on a CLK 320 for $500.00? - I suspect if you looked over your receipt that only the brake pads replaced. In the industry we call this a 'Pad Slap'.
This is a cheap way of doing brakes - but not the correct way. We never do 'pads slaps' at my shop.

Sounds like he is giving you a price without a thorough inspection. Unfortunately this vehicle is expensive to repair, it wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion.

Depending on what part of the country you are in, that is actually relatively cheap, especiallly if it includeds the rotors. Most Euro cars require dealer parts or high end aftermarket parts. I would question what kind of parts (and which parts) were replaced for just 500 for brakes all around.
