I have a 2005 Kia Spectra 5. I recently had my catalytic converter replaced and the fill switch near the gas tank replaced because check engine light was on and the car wouldn't take gas. I have replaced the gas cap with 3 factory caps and continue to have the gas issue and check engine light coming on. No reading is coming off the engine light and they can't find any obstruction or reason why the gas keeps on pushing back out. My car only has 117,000 miles on it and I started having these issues at 102,000 miles. It is turning into a money pit and I don't know what else to do! Any advice I can pass along to the mechanics? I have taken it to the dealership and a private mechanic and neither can seem to fix it. Please help!

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Patty Streeter, at If your talking about check engine light the only way to reset the codes for those is by a OBD II (On Board Diagnostics) scanner, you can buy one at any auto parts store, but if you do not wish to buy one, most Advance Auto Parts stores will reset the code. Keep in mind if the engine light is on and a code is present, there is a problem with the vehicle, and without fixing the problem and just resetting the code, it will not fix the problem, and the engine light will come back on within 4 days or 4 drive cycles.
