Hello, I just bought a 2005 Hyundai Elantra two days ago from a private owner. While driving it my first few times I started hearing a squealing/screeching noise coming from the hood every time I drive it (hard to hear from inside the car, easy to hear if outside). It continues, but changes noises when I brake. I got an oil change yesterday and they identified the noise as possibly be something rubbing together? And the cost for fixing would be over $125. Please help.

Emily,
You can try visiting your local auto parts store, have them inspect your serpentine belt, it may be worn. If your belt is in good condition, you can purchase a can of belt dressing, this lubes the belt that rides on a metal pulley. At times, this can cause your squeaking noise and be a simple fix.
Hi Emily,
You should take your vehicle to another shop and have them diagnose the problem. ['possibly be something rubbing together' - is not a diagnosis]
Sounds like it could be a belt squealing. 'Could Be'.
You won't know unless you have a trained auto technician check it out.
