ok after many a men tried and failed I decided to do it myself. here it goes. I bought a F-Windstar 2003 at that time I knew the drivers side window did not work , It came with a new regulator and the wiring had to be spliced into my original wiring that plugs into the bottom of the silinoid. I was not the one who replaced this whole unit. And he had much trouble. 1 major factor was the new unit required you to drill a somewhat mm size hole to fit the screw that mounted the unit. It was located like under the handle about 3-4 inches. Well he did not do this, and when I inquired about it as to this may be the problem (maybe shorting out) he pried or cut , what have you a hole and said this would be fine. At that time when he would pull the silinoid looking thing towards the inside of the door frame the window would go up and down ,when he let go it would not work at all. Ok that's that part. My 18 fuse blows every time I start my van , my radio would come on but no sound but I was able to listen to my cd player(stock) now no radio lights no cd player(though it does spin constantly) my door ajar, brakes, check engine lights stay on and my battery light comes on/off as does my dash lights. it is only the drivers side window and the 2 windows in the back. the passenger side is controlled by the master switch just fine. as does the side mirrors and the power locks. I tried changing the master switch in the drivers door every fuse in the fuse box under the drivers side dash.
I would concur with a possible short in the wire harness. You may need to repull your drivers door panel to inspect for damage first. There us a secondary fuse block under the hood rear passenger side which can house your window relay. This relay, when failed, can cause odd electrical mishaps. Hope this helps, write back with further questions.
