There is a squeaking noise coming from the front of the engine, near the fan and belts on my Dodge Durango. It's louder when the engine is idle, but you can hear it all the time. What might be causing this?

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Helaine Kurot, Owner/Technician at 360 Automotive Your car is telling you something is not right with either the belt or a pulley. I would recommend taking it to a shop to have it looked at.

Barb Petrey, President - DBK Enterprises Inc at Jiffy Lube Sounds like the belt. Easy way to test is spray belt with WD40 or something comparable , if the noise goes away it's the belt.

Amy Mattinat, Owner and Author at Auto Craftsmen Ltd Hi Laura, Sounds like a belt may be loose or need replacing.

Amanda J. Pierce, MBA Laura, You may need to replace your belt and have your pulley bearings inpected.
