Hello all, Every time I turn on my A/C there is a loud clicking noise. The noise does not occur when the A/C, however. When it's idling, the clicking is constant and it increases the RPM's. When I'm driving, the clicking comes and goes in 3 or 4 second intervals and still increases the RPM's, making the car lurch forward at stop signs, etc. The car has always had a mild grumbling sound when it's put in gear, but this is loud clicking sounds serious. Thanks, Shandy

Answers from the Automotive Experts

Amanda J. Pierce, MBA Shandy, You may need to have your a/c clutch assembly inspected, this may be on the verge of needing replacement. Also, make sure that there is no obtrusion in the fan blades.

Lori Johnson, Owner and Instructor at Ladies Start Your Engines Dear Shandy, When you turn on your A/C you can usually hear the compressor running. The clicking you're hearing may be an indication that something is wrong with the compressor, or it's starting to go. I would have that checked out before it seizes up and breaks a belt. Lori Johnson
