my 1996 jeep cherokee 6cyl.4.0L,"Has a hard time starting when cold. change plugs, wires and tune-up.when it starts,no stallings,sputtering,mis-fires,engine runs excellent..turn off engine for an hr....hard time starting.
the only problem is;starting when cold...
Thank you for writing into AskPatty!! To address your concern with a hard start when you cold, (2) things come to mind. A failing IAC (Intake Air Control) Valve, or simply a new battery. Over time your IAC valve can have carbon deposits form not relaying properly to the ECU. Secondly, you may have an aged battery that has a depleting cell, this can cause just enough "juice" to cold start, but sluggish when the ambient temperature is colder. If you have another vehicle with a healthy battery you can try to switch it out, and see if this is a remedy.
Hope this helps!!

Our guess is that it sounds like maybe the Fuel Injectors are leaking down when the vehicle is sitting, causing the Vehicle to flood when it is sitting, after running for a while. To have a proper assessment, one of our techs recommends getting an advanced vehicle diagnostic test done. This may be the best way to know for what is causing this No Start Condition.
Hope this helps!
