When applying my brakes, I hear/ feel a grinding/scratching noise coming from the front right brake ONLY.....(cannot feel/hear it from the other three)?..I had a brake booster installed in Oct 2009..Could it be the pad or something else? How much could this cost?
Thank You for writing into AskPatty!! With your description of a grinding/scratching noise, I recommend that you have a front brake inspection. The noise that you are hearing may be your low brake pad backing scraping your rotor surface. It is a good idea to have a mechanic inspect your braking components to verify your concern and have it repaired before any major damage occurs.
I hope this information helps in resolving your issue!

I could either be the pad or the caliper. The pad could be checked easily. If that looks ok, it could be caused by the right Front Brake Caliper/Caliper Slide being seized. If this is the case, then then Caliper would need to be replaced. Typically you would replace Calipers in Pairs to prevent further issues from coming up.
Depending on how long the Caliper has been seized and whether or not the Brakes have gotten down to Metal on Metal, the Rotors should be inspected as well. It's possible that they might need replacement also.
Please make sure you get a proper inspection- brakes are important! Ask your technician to show you any wear or breakdown. Hope this helps!
