Thank You for writing into AskPatty!! All vehicles of any make and model have their own mechanical quirks. You can search for consumer reports and find pros and cons all over the internet. There are always risks as well buying a used vehicle as there are unknowns of the previous owner. I recommend asking for service records, and paying an outside mechanic if you have to, for an inspection before you purchase. I hope this helps!
It's always a good idea to check online for reviews of various makes and models before you go hunting for a used car. My favorite sites are:
www.consumerreports.com., www.jdpower.com/autos/used-cars to compare four of your favorite vehicles, www.fueleconomy.gov and find out the city and highway average miles of any vehicle, and www.epinions.com/auto where you can get other owner's opinions regarding various makes and models.
To find out if any used car is mechanically sound and worth purchasing it is imperative you take it to a qualified auto technician for a thorough used car inspection.

I am assuming you are referring to an oil leak. I have heard this is due to an endplay on the crankshaft that extends about 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch out of the seal. In the case, that is a known problem with the 2.4L inside the PT Cruiser. It will need a short block to repair.

Without more information I can only comment this way:
If you are asking if the PT Cruiser is a Sound car~ I would say "YES"!
Used to own one and loved it..
If you are asking if THIS particularly vehicle is sound that you are considering, I would find a certified ASKPATTY.COM facility in your area and spend the few bucks to have it checked out throughly~
