Have you had brakes put on your car recently? Brake rotors tend to warp from the intense heat caused from the low brake pads. This "warping" although not dangerous, can cause the jerky feeling you are getting.
I suggest to have your brakes checked by a professional to confirm, although uncomfortable, you are not in danger.

Hello Mary- this could be several things- 1) Problems with the brake calipers 2) also could be worn or damaged front suspension components - I would take it to your trusted mechanic & have them check it for you- hope this helps- Thanks Super Girls Auto.
